Had a foreman tell me my finish was garbage because of my float timing, still argue about this
About 8 months ago I was finishing a 30x40 slab in Riverside and the foreman walked up after I had floated it and said my surface was too soft to get a good hard trowel later. He told me I was floating way too early and it was trapping bleed water under the surface. I had been doing it that way for a while and never had a problem I could point to. But he made me wait until the sheen was gone before I touched it again and the finish came out way tighter. So now I wait longer and my edges are cleaner. But here is the thing, another guy on the crew says waiting that long in the heat makes it too hard to work and you get more tear out. So which is it? Do you float as soon as it will take the tool or do you wait for the bleed water to disappear? I want to hear from guys pouring in dry heat vs humid areas because I feel like location matters here.
