Floated my first 1000 square foot driveway solo last Saturday
I've been finishing for about 4 years now and usually work with a crew. The boss called in sick so I had to handle a 1000 square foot driveway pour all by myself. It was a 6 yard load and I was worried I'd mess up the timing on the bull float. Somehow I got it all leveled, edged, and broomed before it set up too hard. Has anyone else had to go solo on a big job and how did you handle the pressure?

Man that sounds like a total “send it and pray” kind of day. Six yards solo is basically a race against the sun (and your own panic). I bet your legs were screaming by the time you got to the broom, but hey, at least you didn't have some guy breathing down your neck telling you to hurry up.

Wait, hold up. "Send it and pray"? That phrasing hit me like a ton of bricks. Are you telling me you actually just threw caution to the wind and hoped for the best with a six-yard solo load? I'm honestly shocked nobody's talked about the sheer insanity of that move, like, that's a recipe for a really bad back or a dumped pile of concrete in the middle of the driveway. Your legs must have been on fire by the time you hit the broom, I can't even imagine. And yeah, dodging some supervisor breathing down your neck is the one silver lining in that whole nightmare.
