The 2AM RAID rebuild in a hospital basement that aged me 5 years

Back in 2004 I got a call that a file server at St. Mary's was throwing disk errors, got there at 2am in the basement and watched the RAID 5 array drop 2 drives at once, had to scrounge a spare Seagate from a dead machine just to get it to rebuild. Any old-timers remember babying those SCSI controllers through a rebuild or did you just cross your fingers too?

Heard a story once about a guy who kept a box of old SCSI drives in his trunk for years just for nights like that. Did you at least get a badge or a pat on the back for that save?

The trunk full of SCSI drives thing was more of a 90s habit, not a 2004 move.
