Talked to a dude at the Micro Center repair counter who changed how I think about thermal paste
He said most people glob it on like mayo but the real trick is a thin X pattern across the chip. Got me wondering if I've been messing up CPU temps for years without knowing lol. Anyone else have a 'wait, I've been doing this wrong' moment with basic stuff?

The X pattern changed my life too, I dropped 4 degrees on my gaming rig after switching from the pea method. Now I spend way too much time staring at temps wondering why I ever globbed it on like butter.

Watched a Gamers Nexus video once where they tested like 20 different patterns and the X was barely better than a pea, but my Ryzen 7600 dropped 3 degrees so I'm sticking with it. Now I'm more paranoid about how much I used to over-tighten my cooler, that was probably doing more damage than the paste.
