Shop lead in Spokane said to skip thermal paste on OEM coolers, cost me a comeback
Back when I worked at a repair bench in Spokane, the shop lead told me OEM coolers already have pre-applied paste so adding more just makes a mess. I believed him for about 40 machines until a customer came back twice with random shutdowns on a Dell OptiPlex, and the CPU was hitting 95C under load. Pulled the cooler, and the factory pad was dried out and barely covering half the die. Anyone else get burned by a shortcut from a senior tech, and how do you decide when their advice is worth trusting?
