Question about a client who refused to let me clean their computer

I had a regular customer in my shop last month who brought in a desktop that was running super slow. When I opened it up, the dust was so thick you could write your name in it. I told them I needed to clean it out for $40, but they said, 'No, just make it fast, the dust keeps it warm.' I tried to explain how heat kills parts, but they wouldn't listen. Has anyone else had a client argue against basic maintenance like that?

That logic is wild... like @irish74 said, it's the same mindset. My buddy's old laptop finally cooked its own CPU, and he was shocked it wasn't "just slow.

It reminds me of people who skip oil changes because the car still runs. There's a weird belief that if something works right now, any extra care is a waste. They only see the upfront cost, not the bigger repair bill later. It's frustrating when basic facts about how machines work get ignored. How do you even argue with "dust keeps it warm" without sounding like a know-it-all?

Totally get that frustration. My cousin ran his Xbox 360 without cleaning it for years, said the red ring was a total surprise. It's like trying to explain that a clogged sink isn't a feature. You just want to shake them and point at the melted thermal paste.
