Why does nobody mention how loud the surface comms are underwater?
Did my third mixed-gas dive off the Gulf coast last Tuesday and realized something that blew my mind. I pulled up my logbook after and counted 47 times the tender's voice crackled through my comms in a single 90-minute bottom time. Found out from a dive supervisor in Galveston that comms volume is actually set to overcompensate for regulator noise, which I never considered. Is that standard across all outfits, or do some of you turn the gain down? Has anyone else gotten a headache from that constant hiss and chatter?
