Had a seal follow me around for a whole inspection in Monterey Bay

It kept trying to nudge my tool bag and mimicked my hand signals to the surface crew. Anyone else had a marine buddy get a little too involved with the job?

That kind of thing happens more than people talk about. Animals seem to get curious about human routines, like they're trying to figure out the point of our busy work. Saw a crow once that learned the garbage truck schedule better than most of my neighbors. Makes you wonder who's really studying who out there.

Have you tried leaving out a small mirror or shiny object near where they hang out? I had a magpie that kept tapping on my window every morning at like 6am and once I set up an old compact mirror on the porch it got obsessed with that instead and left my windows alone. Also helps to keep bird feeders stocked with the same stuff at the same time so they stop testing your patience. They're smart enough to learn routines but you can redirect them if you're consistent.

@the_logan nailed it - maybe they're trying to teach us something too.
