Rant: Comic book fans in my group went from arguing to agreeing over a $3 variant

For like 6 months everyone in my local meetup at Danny's Comics in Portland was at each other's throats over art styles, then this week they all suddenly started nodding along to some guy's take on the McFarlane era. What happened to people defending their picks to the death, or did we all just get tired?

Back in 2019 my group fought for months over Jim Lee vs Rob Liefeld. Then one night a guy just pulled out his old X-Men #1 and showed us the foldout cover. Everyone went quiet. We all remembered being twelve again and that was that. Sometimes you just need one person to remind you why you liked this stuff in the first place.
