My friend said to skip the big two for a year, so I tried it.

A buddy of mine, who's been into comics way longer, told me to stop buying Marvel and DC books for a full year and just read indie stuff. I was really hesitant, but I gave it a shot starting last January. I ended up picking up titles like 'Something is Killing the Children' and 'Department of Truth' from my local shop. Honestly, it completely changed how I see the hobby, focusing more on story than big events. Has anyone else taken a long break from the main superhero universes and found something they really loved?

Oh man, that's a great idea. I did something similar a while back and got totally hooked on "The Nice House on the Lake." The writing is so tight and the art is creepy in the best way. It made me realize how much I missed stories that just end on their own terms.

Stories that end on their own terms" is a nice line, @xena_brown50, but I'm not sure it's that deep. A lot of those books just feel rushed because the sales weren't there. I read "The Nice House on the Lake" too, and the ending felt less like a choice and more like they just stopped. It happens all the time. They build this huge mystery and then wrap it up in two pages because the comic is getting canceled. It's not art, it's business.
