Just realized my reading order was killing my enjoyment of 90s X-Men

For years I jumped around between Uncanny X-Men and X-Men (vol 2) trying to read them in release order. It felt like a chore and I kept losing track of the story. Then I tried reading Uncanny arcs straight through and catching up on vol 2 later. Huge difference. The pacing just flows way better and I get more invested in each plot. Anyone else have a series that works better when you ignore the standard reading order?

Oh man, you totally nailed it. I did the same thing with Claremont's New Mutants and X-Factor - trying to weave them into the main X-titles just ruined the flow. Reading each series as its own arc and then filling in the gaps later makes everything way more satisfying.

Right. Because nothing says fun like turning superhero comics into a spreadsheet with a color coded timeline. Good on you for figuring out that reading the damn book is more important than looking smart with the perfect release order.
