Just realized I have been reading my kid's comics wrong this whole time
My 8 year old handed me his copy of Dog Man and I read the whole thing out loud like a normal book, left to right, top to bottom. He stopped me on page 12 and said dad you are skipping the small panels, and that is when I saw there were like 3 little boxes I never even looked at. I went back and read those and the jokes actually hit different. So now I want to know, do you read all the tiny background panels or just the main speech bubbles?
Skipping the small panels is honestly normal for a lot of readers though. My brother does the same thing with his kids' books and they still love it. The tiny boxes are usually just extra jokes, not the actual story, so you are not really missing anything big.
