I tried letting a comic shop clerk pick my pull list for 3 months

Went into Third Eye Comics in Annapolis and handed my pull list over to the guy behind the counter, told him to swap out half my books for whatever he thought was good. After 3 months I ended up dropping 8 of the 10 books he recommended because they were all dark, depressing indy stuff that felt like homework to read. Has anyone else had a shop employee steer them completely wrong with recommendations?

Most shop guys only recommend books they personally like, not what the customer actually wants to read.

Same thing happened to me but I flipped it around. I told the guy at my shop I wanted stuff that's fun and fast, not heavy. He put me on to TMNT and Power Rangers from Boom Studios, which was perfect. Also told him I liked Samurai Jack and he hooked me up with Space Usagi. Now I just say "keep it light, nothing that makes me feel sad" and he gets it.
