Can we talk about that moment you realize you've been bagging comics wrong for years?

I was at my local shop in Portland last month and the owner looked at my longbox and said 'you're suffocating the books dude'. I had been sealing every single bag with tape right at the opening instead of leaving a tiny air gap for breathing. Has anyone else had that 'oh no' moment where a simple habit turned out to be doing more harm than good?

Wasted years taping the flap down tight on my silver age books.

Feel your pain on that one. I did the same thing with my silver age Flash issues, thinking I was protecting them from the elements. Took me years to realize the adhesive was slowly turning brown and staining the covers. Now I just store them in proper bags with no tape at all and it works fine. Sold a few of those taped books later on and the price drop was rough to see. Live and learn I guess, but it still stings a little when I think about it.

Man, that tape stain thing is the WORST. I feel for you, it's such a bummer when you think you're doing the right thing and it backfires like that.
