Why does nobody talk about how bad pre-ground beans go off?

I used to buy a bag of pre-ground from the grocery store in Chicago every week and thought my pour-overs tasted fine. Last Tuesday my buddy handed me a handful of beans he'd just ground at his place and the difference hit me like a truck, my whole setup was basically dead flavor for years. Anyone else ever make the switch and feel dumb about how long they waited?

I used to say fresh beans were a waste of money, but that first pour from your grinder changed my whole mind.

Tell me something @patricia_green21, once you tasted that difference, did you ever go back to pre-ground or was it done for you? Cause I feel like there's no turning back after that first cup.
