My French press carafe cracked right before my morning coffee
I was making coffee yesterday morning and heard a small pop sound from the kitchen. My glass French press carafe had a crack running from the rim halfway down. I guess the water was a bit too hot, or maybe it was just old. I bought it at a local shop in Austin about three years ago. I had to quickly pour the grounds and water into a regular pot and strain it through a paper filter, which was a mess. The coffee tasted weak and I was late for work. Now I'm looking for a new one, maybe something metal this time. Has anyone else had a French press break on them, and what did you replace it with?

Honestly, it's just a coffee pot. The whole morning got messed up, sure, but people act like a broken kitchen gadget is a major life event. You made a workaround and still got caffeine, so mission mostly accomplished. I'd just grab a cheap replacement and move on, no need to overthink it.

Well, maybe it's not about the coffee pot itself. Isn't it more about that feeling when a simple, trusted part of your day just fails? That small bit of control gone. A cheap replacement fixes the machine, but it sort of misses the point of why it bugs you.

My old toaster died last year. Felt like losing a tiny, reliable friend.
