Unpopular opinion: that $400 home energy audit told me nothing I couldn't figure out myself for free
The guy walked around my place in Boise for 45 minutes, handed me a report that basically said seal my windows and add attic insulation, which I already knew from a $12 tube of caulk and my own eyeballs, so save your money and just feel for drafts on a windy day instead.
Man this is so true and it drives me nuts. Had almost the same thing happen here in Tulsa, paid $350 and the dude told me my attic needed more insulation and my door sweeps were worn out, like no kidding buddy I can see daylight under my front door. The part that really got me was he used one of those little thermal cameras and acted like he was finding gold, but my hand near the door frame told me the same thing for free. Sealed everything up myself for like $40 in materials and my bill dropped way more than his fancy report ever helped. Save your money folks, walk around on a cold windy day and your face will find every leak in the house.
