My neighborhood's solar co-op cut install costs by a third

I joined a group buy through our city's climate office last spring. About 40 houses on the north side signed up together, which dropped the price to $2.10 per watt instead of the $3.20 I got quoted alone. The installer did all the roof checks and paperwork for us, so each homeowner only had to pick a panel and sign. My system went live in August and my electric bill dropped from $145 to $22 a month, even with AC running. If your town doesn't have a co-op, ask the county sustainability coordinator if they can start one. Has anyone else tried a bulk solar purchase in your area?

Did the co-op handle the permit stuff too, or was that still on each homeowner?
