Vent: My 1,000th chimney clean was a weird one

Just finished a job in Springfield and my service counter ticked over to 1,000. The milestone job itself was a real head scratcher, a massive old flue that had a fully intact bird's nest about 3 feet down, plus a ton of old mortar droppings. Took me almost 4 hours to clear it all out safely. It got me thinking, what's the strangest or most challenging obstruction you've ever pulled out of a chimney?

That "four hours is just a normal workday" bit really sells how tough your job can be.

Actually, that sounds like a pretty standard job, not that weird at all. Most old chimneys have nests or rubble in them. Four hours is just a normal workday for a tough clean.

Used to think chimney cleaning was quick and easy until I saw the mess in my own place last year. You're right @jennyh41, pulling out all that packed-in soot and an old bird nest took the guy most of the afternoon. Makes sense a tougher one could fill a whole workday.
