Tried that tapered chimney brush everyone swears by and it got stuck halfway down
I picked up one of those cone-shaped tapered brushes after reading online that they handle heavy creosote buildup better than standard brushes. Used it on a job out in Oakdale last Wednesday, and it got wedged tight about 4 feet from the top. Took me 45 minutes of wiggling and pulling to get it free, and I nearly had to cut the rod. Anyone else had a tapered brush get stuck like that, or did I just get a bad one?

Tapered brushes are tricky but I've had more trouble with the standard round ones getting bound up myself. The cone shape is supposed to self-center but if your flue has any offset or taper to it they can absolutely wedge in tighter than a regular brush. Mine got stuck once because I was pushing too fast and the bristles folded over instead of compressing... you gotta work it real slow and let the taper do its job. Could be your chimney has a narrower section at that spot or maybe the brush is just a hair too big for the tile.

That 45 minute stuck job in Oakdale was the exact moment I stopped swearing by the regular round brushes and started questioning the whole tapered design. Used to think they were a gimmick but now I'm not so sure.
