Why does nobody talk about mushroom underpad changing shape during install?

On a recent project, a client chose underpad from mushroom roots. It kept changing size because of moisture in the air, so the carpet looked bumpy initially. We waited for it to settle before doing the final stretch. Lesson learned: eco-friendly doesn't always mean easy to handle.

Man, I feel this in my bones. I once rushed a job with a cork underlay because the client was in a hurry. Two days later it looked like a topo map of the Alps. Had to redo the whole stretch. I'm all for green materials, but they sure love to teach you patience the hard way. What did your client say when they saw the bumps?

Read that cork underlay can warp if installed too quickly.

Yeah, cork will humble you fast. I laid some in a sunroom before it acclimated properly. By noon the next day, it had these wild ridges, like someone crumpled paper under the floor. The homeowner pointed at it and just said "What is that?" in this quiet, disappointed voice. We had to tear it all out and wait two extra days for new sheets to settle. Never cut corners with that stuff.
