Appreciation post: the old timer in Tulsa showed me how to sharpen a chisel with sandpaper on a marble tile in 2003
He said skip the $90 water stone and just spray a sheet of 320 grit on a scrap of marble, and 22 years later I still can't tell the difference on pine, so am I the odd one out here or does anyone else think we overcomplicate sharpening?
Wait, you're telling me I've been lugging around a heavy stone and soaking it in water like some kind of ritual for nothing? The old timer basically sharpened his chisel on the garage floor and called it a day. Honestly the marble tile trick sounds like the most expensive free thing I've ever heard.
