TIL my company's 'professional development fund' expires if you don't use it by December

I found out last week that my employer gives us $1,500 a year for classes or conferences, but it doesn't roll over. I had $800 sitting there from March that I completely forgot about. HR told me I have to spend it by Dec 15 or lose it. I'm scrambling to sign up for a project management cert course before the deadline. Has anyone else dealt with a use-it-or-lose-it perk like this and found a good way to use the money fast?

Man, I actually see it the other way. $800 free money you forgot about? That's on you for not tracking company perks. Better than them just pocketing it and giving nothing.
