Got told my cold emails were 'too salesy' by a VP of Marketing

I was sending out these long pitch emails trying to book meetings for my SaaS product. A VP at a mid sized company in Austin replied back and said 'your emails sound like a used car salesman wrote them.' That stung but she was right. So I cut all the fluff, started asking one specific question about their current workflow, and my reply rate went from like 5% to almost 20% in about 2 weeks. Has anyone else gotten feedback that completely flipped how you approach outreach?

Same happened to me with my newsletter signups (totally different thing I know) and @the_jamie is spot on about cutting the fluff.

Cut the fluff, lead with a question.
