Pro tip: I started keeping a private log of stuff I posted after a job offer got pulled in 2022
Three years ago a recruiter I had been talking to for six weeks sent me a short email saying they were going in another direction. A week later a friend on the inside let slip that someone had screenshotted a joke I made on Twitter in 2019 and sent it to HR. For the last two years I have kept a simple text file of everything I post on public accounts, with dates and the exact words, and I read it back once a month. The log forces me to see how a line reads with no tone and no context, which is how the other side sees it. I am not saying everyone needs a file, but I am curious how many people here have had something pulled from a job or a group because of one old post, and what they did after.
Man, that hits close to home. A buddy of mine lost a job lead back in 2018 over a Facebook comment he made about a bad customer, and the crazy part is he posted it on his own page with like 40 friends, but someone took a screenshot and passed it around. He never found out who did it either, which ate at him for months. What he did after was pretty much what you're doing, he went back and cleaned up years of old posts and now he barely puts anything out there at all. I get why a log would help, reading your own words back cold really does show you how fast a joke can turn into something ugly once it's out of your hands.
