A guy at a bar in Portland told me his brother got fired for a 10-year-old tweet
We were watching a game and he just brought it up out of nowhere. He said his brother lost his job at a marketing firm because someone dug up an old, dumb joke. The guy argued it was a witch hunt, but I said companies have to protect their image. Has anyone seen something like this happen to someone they know?

Wow, that's just wrong. People change, and holding a dumb joke from a decade ago against someone is cruel.

What if the joke showed a real pattern of behavior that never changed? Terry_wood51, sometimes the "dumb joke" is just the first public sign of a bigger problem. Forgiving past mistakes is good, but ignoring a clear track record is naive.
