Warning: The REI in Boulder had a whole aisle of 'ultralight' gear that looked super flimsy
I was there last weekend and it felt like half the tents were made of tissue paper, honestly. Has anyone actually used that stuff for more than a weekend without it ripping?

Yeah it's part of that trend where everything feels disposable now. Like furniture that falls apart after a year or cheap appliances. You pay a lot for the brand name but the actual product is thinner and weaker. It's built for a good review out of the box, not for actually lasting. Makes you just want to buy the old heavy stuff secondhand.

Find old gear at thrift stores, it's built like a tank.

What even is the point of gear that can't handle a few trips? I get trying to save weight but some of that stuff looks like a strong breeze would wreck it. My buddy bought one of those tents and the zipper gave out on night two, total waste of money. Feels like they're betting on people not actually using it hard.
