Overheard a guy trashing ultralight chairs at the trailhead, got me thinking

Last Saturday at the Mount Baker trailhead, this older hiker told his buddy that anyone who brings a chair under 2 pounds is just renting a sore back for the weekend. I laughed it off at first, but then my own $60 Amazon special wobbled on the gravel while his beat-up camp chair sat solid. Do the heavier ones really last that much longer, or is he just stuck in his ways? Curious what folks here have seen after a few seasons with either style.

Well now, that's an interesting take from that fella. But I have to ask, how much time does he actually spend sitting in that chair versus carrying it? Cause I've seen plenty of folks with those heavy old-fashioned chairs who end up standing half the time anyway because they don't want to bother setting them up. My own lightweight one has lasted three seasons now, and sure, I've had to tighten a strap here and there, but for the miles I put in, the trade-off seems fair. So what's his real issue, the weight on his back or the way it looks?
