Tried the rubber band trick on a stuck filter ring and it launched across my shop
So last Tuesday I had a customer's old 50mm with a filter ring that would not budge, and I read somewhere that wrapping a rubber band around it gives you grip. I grabbed a wide one from my desk drawer, wrapped it tight, and gave it a good twist. That thing popped off so fast it flew past my ear and bounced off the parts cabinet, I found it 20 minutes later behind a box of screws. I laughed for a solid minute because I had been babying that ring for two days with a filter wrench and a little heat. What I learned is that sometimes the ring is stuck because the filter is cross threaded, not because it is tight, and grip does not fix that. Now I check the threads with a flashlight first before I even reach for a tool. Anyone else had a part go flying because it let go way sooner than you expected?
