Tried a JIS screwdriver on a seized Nikon F2 screw after fighting it with a regular Phillips for 45 minutes
The JIS bit came out of the cheap kit I bought on Amazon for $8 and it came loose in about 3 seconds, no stripped head, no swearing, has anyone else had that kind of luck switching from Phillips to JIS?

That JIS vs Phillips difference is night and day on old Japanese gear, especially Nikon gear from that era where they used JIS screws even though they look like Phillips. You can turn a seized screw into a smooth removal just by switching to the right bit. Grab a cheap JIS set now before you touch another camera, your future self will be glad you did.

Felt smart buying a fancy JIS set off Amazon, only to realize my first repair was on an old Canon, not a Nikon, and I couldn't get the stupid screwdriver to even fit in the slot. Ended up just using a flathead and swearing for 20 minutes. Guess I'll have to actually buy a Nikon camera now just to justify the tool purchase. That's how they get you, right?

Respectfully, @grant.sam, I'd say maybe the flathead trick worked fine and you don't need a whole new camera just to feel better about a tool purchase.
