Thought a vintage lens fungus was a goner, but a simple UV light trick saved it
I was sure this old 50mm f/1.8 from a yard sale was toast, but a local shop owner in Austin told me to try a 15-minute session under a UV-C lamp. The haze cleared up enough to make it usable again. Has anyone else had luck with UV for cleaning, or is it just a temporary fix?

Has anyone looked into whether the UV thing actually kills the fungus or just bleaches the haze? I read somewhere it stops growth but doesn't remove dead spores buried in the glass. Might be worth checking with a flashlight later to see if it comes back.

Honestly thought UV cleaning was just a weird internet myth. Tbh seeing it actually work on a legit fungus case is pretty wild. Might have to dig out my own old lenses and give it a shot.
