Was using clamps all wrong for years until a shop foreman showed me

I used to just tighten clamps as hard as I could on every glue up. Thought more pressure meant stronger joints. Then an old timer in a shop outside Portland showed me I was actually squeezing out too much glue and making things weaker. Switched to clamping just until I see a little squeeze out, then backing off half a turn. My miters stopped shifting and I use way less glue now. Has anyone else had their mind changed about something basic?

Is it really that big a deal either way?

Heard a podcast about this the other day. Some tech guy was saying how these little changes add up over the years. @benc53 I think it matters more than people realize, especially for long-term stuff. Small details can make or break the experience later on.
