The library quiet room seating chart that killed my book club
My book club of 6 met at the downtown branch last month and I grabbed the big round table like always, but the new seating chart now reserves it for study groups. We ended up split across two tiny tables and the whole vibe fell apart, so I booked a $15 community room for next time. Anyone else had a regular meetup spot get yanked out from under them?

Renting the community room was probably the smartest fifteen bucks you'll spend all month. It's wild how these little spaces we take for granted get reconfigured and suddenly the whole routine falls apart, and you're left scrambling like a game of musical chairs. Everywhere I look lately, it's the same story: someone decides the old way of doing things is inefficient, and they "optimize" it without thinking about the people who actually used it. Libraries, coffee shops, even parks are getting these reservation systems and zoning rules that squeeze out the casual regulars. We keep treating every shared space like it needs to be maxed out for productivity, but a book club talking about a chapter isn't wasting anything, it's building community. Good on you for paying to keep your group together, sometimes you gotta vote with your wallet when the free options get too fussy.
