The 2 a.m. apology text from my ex hit different than the breakup speech

After 4 years together, she ended things with a 20 minute lecture about my flaws, zero mention of anything good. Then 8 weeks later she sent a 3 a.m. text saying she was sorry and that I deserved better, which contradicted every word she said before. Has anyone else gotten a clearer read on a person from their late-night follow-up than from the actual breakup itself?
