I finally forgave my brother after 4 years of silence
We had this huge blowup over my mom's estate money, like $12k worth of furniture and saved cash, and I told him he was dead to me. For 4 years we only talked through lawyers and family, and I hated every holiday because he was always there but never looked at me. Last month my nephew got into a bad car wreck outside Austin, and I drove 3 hours to the hospital without thinking. He was already in the waiting room, crying, and we just sat there together for 8 hours until the kid was out of surgery. That week we started actually talking, not about the money but about how stupid we both were. Has anyone else had a big fight end because of a sudden emergency that put everything in perspective?

Could it be that you're just rewriting history to feel better about yourself? I mean, four years of silence over $12k is a lot of pride to throw away because one person got hurt. Sure, emergencies feel big in the moment, but that money stuff never got resolved, did it? Honestly, people use tragedy as an excuse to skip the hard conversations they've been avoiding forever. Maybe this isn't about moving on, maybe it's just a convenient way to pretend the old wound doesn't still stink.

Sixty thousand dollars plus four years of silent interest says it's never just about the money.
