Hot take: monthly cover pages are a total time sink for most people
I've been bullet journaling for about 4 years now, and last month I finally dropped the fancy cover page thing that everyone seems to love. I used to spend 2 to 3 hours on these big artistic spreads with washi tape, hand lettering, the whole deal. But back in April I realized I never actually looked at them after I finished drawing them. My weeklies and dailies get opened constantly, but that pretty first page? Just sat there. So last Monday I just wrote the month name in plain block letters and went straight to my task list. Honestly, freed up so much time and I don't miss it at all. Am I the only one who thinks these cover pages are just for showing off on Instagram instead of actually helping anyone track their life? Or do you guys get real use out of them that I'm missing?

Whoa, wait, TWO TO THREE HOURS?! That's wild. I mean, I do a monthly cover page but it takes me like 20 minutes max, and it's mostly just me doodling random stuff while I watch TV. I can't even imagine spending an entire afternoon on something I'm just gonna flip past in a week.
But here's the thing, I get it though. I keep mine super simple because I know if I tried to make it all fancy and Instagram-worthy, I'd burn out on journaling completely. Last year I tried doing all these elaborate themes and I quit for like 3 months because it felt like homework. Now it's just a quick title and maybe a little color, and that's plenty.
Also, you gotta admit, there's a tiny bit of satisfaction in flipping back to the start of the month and seeing that little bit of effort. But nah, you're not crazy for dropping it. If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work.
