I finally pushed back on the 'always use a CMS' advice in our forum last Thursday.

A member insisted it was the only way for a simple portfolio site, but my static build for a client in Omaha loaded in under a second and cost them nothing to host. Has anyone else found a CMS can be overkill for basic projects?

Sometimes the simplest tool is the right one, you know?

Yeah but "simplest" depends on the job. A butter knife is simple, but you wouldn't use it to cut a 2x4.

I've seen people spend hours debating tools for basic tasks, Olivia. Most of the time, a simple hammer or a plain text editor gets the job done just fine. It's rarely as deep as we make it.
