My neighbor's comment about his grocery bill made me check my own
We were chatting over the fence last Thursday and he mentioned his family of four only spends $150 a week on food. I was shocked because mine was nearly double. He said the trick was planning meals around the store flyers, not his cravings. I tried it this week, built my list from the sales at Food Fair, and spent $162. That's a $75 drop from my usual. Anyone else have a simple switch that cut a regular bill down fast?

Read an article about how buying store brand stuff for basics like flour, sugar, and canned beans can save a ton. I switched last month and barely notice a difference in quality. My grocery bill went down about twenty percent just from that.

Yeah, I did the same thing with pasta and rice. @troythompson, it's crazy how much the price adds up on those big bags. I stick to the store brand for stuff like that now and put the extra money towards better cheese or meat.

Barely notice a difference in quality" is the understatement of the year. I tried the store brand cola once and it tasted like someone described soda to an alien over a bad radio signal. But for flour or beans, you're totally right. It's all the same dirt and water. My big win was realizing I don't need the fancy name brand aluminum foil. The cheap stuff still burns my food just as well.
