The $45 waterproof phone pouch I bought for Thailand turned out to be a floating brick of regret

It leaked on day two at Railay Beach and now I'm out $12 for a replacement screen, has anyone found a dry bag under $20 that actually works?

Lucky you didn't lose the whole phone. Check the Anbi box pouches on Amazon, mine held up in a monsoon.

That's exactly what I told myself when it happened... lucky I didn't lose the whole thing. @hayden466 mentioned the Anbi box pouches and honestly that's solid advice. I've been using a similar hard case pouch for a few years now and it's saved me twice when I got caught in heavy rain. Just make sure you get one with a tight seal, the cheap flimsy ones will let water in. I also keep a small silica gel pack inside mine just in case any moisture sneaks in. Takes a second to put on but beats worrying about a soaked phone.

I’ve had a cheap generic dry bag from a gas station for three years now. It’s been in rivers, pools, and ocean spray and never let a drop in. Maybe the real problem is you bought a name brand pouch that was too fancy for its own good. @ellis.hayden says a hard case with a tight seal is key, but my flimsy zipper bag has outlasted two different hard cases my buddy went through last summer.
