On my last trip, I saved a ton by making ramen in my hotel with a travel kettle, but my friend said it's not really experiencing the place. I mean, who's right here?

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I got weird looks for eating grocery store sandwiches in Paris. But like @reesemiller said, you see the real stuff in those little moments. I learned more about the city waiting in that deli line than I did at half the museums.

Real local life isn't just expensive meals out.

Honestly, I agree but it's more about finding the genuine spots, not just the cost. Tbh, some local life happens at the corner store where people chat over coffee. Ngl, I've seen more real connections at neighborhood potlucks than any trendy brunch place. It's those everyday moments that really show how a town lives.
