Kept finding mold on my bathroom ceiling no matter how much I scrubbed

Last month I noticed black spots creeping back along the edge of my bathroom ceiling in my apartment near downtown SCV. I tried bleach sprays and a magic eraser but the mold kept showing up after a week. Turns out the cheap exhaust fan I bought never actually vented outside it just blew moist air back into the room. I spent $30 on a proper duct kit and routed it through the attic wall on a Saturday morning. It took a few hours but now the ceiling stays dry and clean. Anybody else dealt with a hidden ventilation issue in their rental?

Had a buddy in his first apartment do the exact same thing. Spent weeks scrubbing mold off the bathroom ceiling and buying expensive sprays. Finally had a friend look at it and realized the vent just went straight into the attic instead of outside. Once he got it properly vented the mold never came back. Drove him crazy how simple the fix was.

It's like everything has some hidden simple fix that nobody tells you about until you've already wasted time and money. There's this whole world of basic maintenance stuff that landlords, builders, and just people in general assume everyone knows but nobody actually teaches. You end up jumping through hoops when the real answer is just "fix the airflow" or "check the slope" or "tighten that one screw." It's almost like we're all just stumbling around trying to figure out these little life hacks one embarrassing mistake at a time. Makes you wonder what obvious thing you're currently missing in your own house.
