A neighbor told me I was overcomplicating my budget spreadsheets

I had like 47 categories for everything from coffee to car washes. She said just track three buckets: fixed costs, savings, and everything else. Now I spend 10 minutes a month instead of stressing over my $45 a month in streaming subscriptions. Anyone else ditch the detailed tracking for simpler systems?

Did she say you were overcomplicating it?" That's exactly what happened to me. I cut from 40 categories to just 4 buckets and my stress level dropped way more than my overspending ever did.
