My slow cooker gave out right before a big batch of chili

It happened last Thursday night, just as I was about to start a double recipe to freeze. The old thing just stopped heating up, and I had all the beans and meat ready to go. I ended up having to use my biggest pot on the stove for over two hours, which really ran up my gas bill. Has anyone else had a main kitchen tool break and found a good, low cost way to fix it or replace it?

Oh man, that's the WORST timing. I always check thrift stores first, they usually have a ton of small appliances for like five bucks. It saved me when my blender died.

Wasn't there a study a while back about how many small appliances get thrown out with simple fixes? It's crazy how much ends up in thrift stores because people just replace stuff. I've had good luck with the repair cafe idea too, they showed me how to clean the heating element on my toaster oven. It's kind of satisfying to get more life out of something instead of just buying new.

Ever hear about my friend's air fryer dying right before a party? She found a local repair cafe that fixed it for just the cost of parts, like ten bucks. Those places are a hidden gem for this exact kind of panic.
