My grocery bill dropped from $190 to $112 a week after I started shopping at 7pm on Tuesdays
I used to do my shopping Sunday morning like everyone else, and I'd walk out $190 lighter for the same stuff every time. Three weeks back I got stuck working late and swung by the store around 7pm on a Tuesday, and the meat case was half off on anything with a sell-by date of Wednesday. Now I do all my shopping Tuesday nights, and I've been hitting $112 a week on average, which is $78 less than before. The produce is a little older but I cook it within two days anyway so who cares. The one catch is you can't go in with a list, you buy whatever is marked down and figure out meals after. Has anyone else found a specific day and time that actually works for this, or is it just luck at my store?
Tuesday nights are low key the move at my Kroger too. Bakery stuff gets slapped with 50% off stickers around 7:30 and I've grabbed loaves of sourdough for like two bucks that are still perfectly good. Meat is hit or miss but the ground beef with tomorrow's date is always marked way down, I just freeze half of it. Wednesday mornings are decent too if you catch the restock before they pull the old stuff. Your list-free method is smart because the deals kinda write your menu for you.
