My cheap rice cooker finally gave up after two years

The non-stick coating started flaking into my food, which was a real bummer. I replaced it with a basic $20 model from the discount store that just has an on/off switch. Anyone have a good recipe for a simple rice and beans dish that works with the most basic cooker?

Gave up" is a strong way to put it. Maybe the thing just reached its natural end. Some stuff isn't built to last forever, and six months of use could be the full design life. My last phone case made it about eight months before the corners tore, which felt about right for a cheap piece of rubber. Holding onto something until it completely falls apart isn't always the win, jakeb25. Knowing when you got your money's worth and moving on is a skill.

Yeah, "knowing when you got your money's worth" is the real skill here. People act like using something until it's dust is noble, but that's just stubbornness most of the time. I see the same thing with old appliances or cars - holding on past their useful life just costs you more in the end.
