I used to think dried beans were a waste of time compared to canned
For months I stuck with canned beans because they were 'convenient,' even at $1.29 a can. Last week I finally cooked a whole bag of dried pinto beans from the bulk bin, which cost 89 cents and made the same amount as four cans. The flavor was WAY richer, and I had control over the salt. Has anyone found a good way to speed up the soaking process without a pressure cooker?

Oh man, I saw this thing online about the 'quick soak' method. You just boil the beans for a couple minutes, then turn off the heat and let them sit covered for an hour. It cuts the time way down. I tried it last time and it worked pretty good. The texture was fine, not mushy at all. Totally worth it for that better flavor you talked about.

Echoing @price.tara on this, quick soak never let me down.

That quick soak trick is a lifesaver when you forget to soak them overnight.
