My $15 thrift store blender gave up during a smoothie party in Portland
I was making a big batch for friends when the motor just quit with a sad little puff of smoke (and a smell like burnt plastic). I ended up having to run to the corner store and buy a bunch of overpriced juice instead. What's your go-to move when a budget buy totally fails at the worst possible time?

That burnt plastic smell is the worst, my cheap coffee maker did the same thing last Tuesday.

Oh man, I actually kind of like that smell, it reminds me of new electronics. @masongreen, your toaster story is way more intense though, a full fire is a different league. My old kettle used to give off a hot plastic scent every time, but it never died. I just figured it was breaking in, like a baseball glove.

My $12 toaster from a yard sale caught fire last month. It was just me trying to make a bagel. The whole kitchen smelled like electrical fire for two days. I had to use the oven broiler for toast, which is a huge pain. Now I just eat cold cereal when that happens.
