Generic brand dishwasher tablets won me over after 3 weeks of testing

I always grabbed the name brand Finish tablets for my machine. But last month I grabbed a box of the store brand from Kroger for $4.99 instead of $12. I ran them for 3 weeks straight on the same cycle and my dishes come out just as clean. No film, no leftover bits, nothing. Has anyone else ditched the big name for the cheap stuff and stuck with it?

Man, I had a similar thing happen but with laundry detergent. Got the cheap jug from Walmart instead of Tide and honestly my clothes smell fine and nothing fell apart. It made me question why I spent so much for years on the fancy stuff. But then I tried their dishwasher tablets and they left a weird white haze on my glasses so I went back to Finish. Guess it just depends on your machine and water hardness. You finding good results with the Kroger ones makes me want to give store brand another shot though. What kind of water do you got in your area, hard or soft?

Hard water here in Phoenix. Super hard. Tried the cheap dishwasher tabs once and got that same white film on everything. Had to run a rinse cycle with vinegar to fix it. But laundry detergent? Never noticed a difference with hard water. Maybe it's cause the washer uses way more water than the dishwasher. Still, makes you wonder if the expensive dishwasher stuff is just better surfactants or straight up marketing.

@masonbell you got it backwards, hard water needs the cheap stuff more cause soft water causes the haze.
