Why does nobody talk about how much your brain lies about leftovers?
I found out last week that your sense of smell actually gets weaker after a few days in the fridge, so that leftover pasta you think is fine? You literally can't smell it going bad until it's way past the point. I read it in a food safety pamphlet my sister left on her counter after her food handlers class. Apparently the bacteria multiply faster at 40 degrees than people assume, and my 'smell test' has probably been useless for years. Has anyone else relied on that test and gotten sick, or am I just the only one who never checked the temp on their fridge?

That 'smell test' thing is just food safety people fearmongering, my nose has never let me down in 40 years. If you can't smell it, it's fine, that's basic science (or at least basic common sense).
