Shoutout to the guy who told me to stop using fabric softener on my towels

Six months ago I was at a cookout in Austin and a friend's dad just flat out said I was destroying my bath towels with that liquid fabric softener. I thought he was full of it. But I tried switching to white vinegar in the rinse cycle instead. My towels went from feeling kinda waxy and not drying worth a damn to actually being absorbent again. Like night and day after the first wash. Anyone else have a random tip from a stranger that actually worked out?

Eh, I don't know if it's THAT serious. Towels still work even if they're a little less fluffy.

Did you see that report about what's actually in those "fluffy" towels from the store? I read somewhere that the stuff they use to make towels soft can actually trap bacteria and soap residue. So yeah, your towel might feel nice for the first few washes, but after that it's basically just a breeding ground for germs. I switched to a rougher, more natural cotton towel a few years ago and my skin cleared up way better. Fluffiness is basically a scam to make us buy new towels every few months when the coating wears off. You're better off with the scratchy ones that actually dry off and don't stink after a week.
